My impression from the plane flying in clear skies was that the terrain in this area is rather arid; very little green was to be seen. There was no hint of water shortage in Lanzhou during my stay, and teh Yellow River flowed with impressive force. Nonetheless, they clearly have to husband supplies carefully. Here follow a few views of the airport, the motorway and of Lanzhou as I arrived.
MOTORWAYS I was very impressed with the number and quality of motorways I travelled on. Amazingly, they all had signs not only in Chinese but also English. However, some of these had not been checked by a native-speaker, and though clear in meaning were often either strange or funny or both. Unfortuntately, I didn't gat any photos of these! |
